In the classroom, we will use the Structured Language Basic, SLB, which is a fast-paced, scripted Alphabetic Phonics-based curriculum for elementary teachers. We will also be using a newly adopted reading series Oklahoma Journey weekly stories for oral language, literature, spelling, word work, comprehension, vocabulary and fluency.
Every week in alphabetical order the classroom will showcase a star student. Every Friday, I will be sending home an "All About Me" poster to be filled out at home and brought back the following Monday for the student to share with his or her classmates.
Every Monday, I will be sending home a progress folder to be signed and returned. This folder will include, graded papers from the previous week, spelling, high-frequency words and homework for the week. Turn in signed folder with homework enclosed by Friday.
Our class will be adopting two class “pets” (stuffed animals). In alphabetical order, each student will take home a pet over a weekend to write, draw or take pictures of their experiences with them in our Pets’ Journal. This
activity is a fun way to introduce and encourage children to writing. The take-home bag will include a pet, writing supplies such as paper, pencils and crayons. It will also include coordinating book to be read to your child to
engage their imagination. I will be collecting the stories, drawings and pictures to put in a binder of our pets’ adventures to be placed in our reading center for the students and any parents/guardians to enjoy. Let the adventures begin.
